Fuckers! Yes, you people in southern regions who have started your gardens already, I mean you!
The 2009 garden is now officially started!
I am so jealous.

But I’m not PLANTING YET. *big heavy sigh* OMG I CANNOT WAAAAIIIIIT!
Also, if you were to get some cheap grow lights from Wal Mart (I heard they were on sale not too long ago, if they’re not still on sale), and fill a bucket with some soil, and put it in your basement (you have a basement, yes?) and you could most definitely grow some spinach, if nothing else. Spinach loves coldish weather.
edit: rather than “and you could most definitely” I should have written “THEN you could most definitely”
…
I am a tard.
Then you really hate me, despite the fact that I am bald
In Costa Rica we have a year round growing season. Today I picked some wonderful arugula, white radish and amaranth.
On the other hand, your growing season is probably a lot more intense.
It’s official. Jorge, you are hereby added to the list of fuckers. FUCKER!
I am actually lucky enough to have a room off my kitchen with windows that let some sun in so I have been growing some stuff through the winter. I got a cheapo fluorescent light at Home Depot plus supercheap recycled bulbs (25 cents each) from a home salvage place. They are in that room waiting for seedlings but I will probably put them to use doing a better job of indoor farming this winter as Wolfie suggests.
I have a giant wooden salad bowl with a wooden fork and wooden spoon which I never use. It is going to have some drainage holes drilled in it and some mustard greens (seeds from Sunni) and maybe other salady greens planted in it.
Ha! Technically I haven’t planted since it’s still too cold to put stuff in the ground right now. Well, at least most stuff that I grow cannot go in now. Our last frost is not listed to mid-April — two months off.
I’ve just got a flat of seeds in dirt in the storage room. When they start peeking out, we’ll start leaving the lights on in there (sunlight fluorescents) during the day. Hopefully that will give them the head start they need to go in ASAP when April rolls around.
Oh and yeah…. the short growing season definitely sucks in MT. One of the biggest drawbacks to the area in our book. If it ends up being our choice of location, we’ll deal but it’s going to be a big change from what we’re used to.
One more thing… Jorge, Costa Rica? Yeah, you’re on the fucker list!
Hmmmm, two women calling me a fucker. Can’t let my wife read this blog
But you know, there is no reason you can’t be down here as well. Escape while it is still possible. Oh yeah, and enjoy year round gardening.
Hugs and kisses
